Spiritual Life VIRTUAL Retreat for Ministers
Dear Ohio Clergy,
Traditionally the Spiritual Life Committee has offered a Silent Retreat in the fall and a 3 day long Spiritual Life Retreat for Ministers in the winter. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we have not been able to meet together at Camp Christian and these events have had to be cancelled.
Friends, we know it has been a long year and we do not want to neglect to meet together, especially knowing just how vital it is that we keep up with our spiritual health at this time. With that in mind, our winter retreat has now shifted and become a Virtual Retreat! We are inviting YOU to participate in a virtual retreat on March 1-3!
Together we will have devotions, worship, fellowship, times of silence, and a series of engaging conversations around the book "Learning to Walk in the Dark” by Barbara Brown Taylor.
"Taylor has become increasingly uncomfortable with our tendency to associate all that is good with lightness and all that is evil and dangerous with darkness. Doesn't God work in the nighttime as well? In Learning to Walk in the Dark, Taylor asks us to put aside our fears and anxieties and to explore all that God has to teach us "in the dark.” She argues that we need to move away from our "solar spirituality” and ease our way into appreciating "lunar spirituality” (since, like the moon, our experience of the light waxes and wanes). Through darkness we find courage, we understand the world in new ways, and we feel God's presence around us, guiding us through things seen and unseen. Often, it is while we are in the dark that we grow the most.” – New York Times Review
We have been in a season of darkness, but we know that doesn't mean we've been in a season without God's presence!
For the registration we've set it up with "pay what you can" options. You can pay the full registration rate, ala carte options, or nothing and just RSVP. Registration for the event can be found here - https://www.ccinoh.org/events_details.aspx?id=458
Options to get the book include, checking with your local library, including E-reader options, finding a reduced price copy of the book can be found at Abe Books and of course, you can also support local book stores by ordering the book from https://bookshop.org!
The retreat schedule is attached and you are invited to come and go as your schedule may allow. We will also do our best to record and post our conversations so that they may be available on YouTube for later reflection if these dates do not work for you. A zoom link for the event is provided below.
We look forward to gathering together, sharing about our times in the dark of this past year, and holding one another in prayer and love as we continue to go forward together.
