The Christian Church in Ohio in partnership with Lilly Endowment Inc., has created the THRIVE program to address and alleviate some of the economic challenges which impact the health of our pastors and congregations. The THRIVE program will address three major concerns:
- Pastoral Compensation: Compensation Support Grants will assist the congregation to retain their pastor by offering competitive wages and appropriate benefits through a step up grant over 3 years. For example:
- Congregation Raises THRIVE Grant Provides Total Increases Year 1 $2,000 $5,000 $7,000 Year 2 $3,500 $3,500 $7,000 Year 3 $5,000 $2.000 $7,000 Year 4 $7,000 $0.00 $7,000 Total Grant - $10,500 -
- Financial Literacy: the Financial Literacy Academy will provide educational resources and experiences to strengthen understanding in the areas of:
a. congregational budgeting,
b. fundraising, and
c. clergy finances and compensation.
Clergy are required to attend 2 financial events over 2 years (for a total of 4 events) with their spouse/life partner and the Congregational Board Chair and Treasurer (grant pays registration, materials, and travel expenses).
- Cohort Support Groups: will solidify learnings, assist with financial planning, and hold accountable the implementation of financial plans for the congregations.
Our goal is to nurture and support healthy Ohio clergy, who provide bold and confident leadership to build strong churches, and who give leadership to their community. Over the next 2 years, thirty (30) Compensation Support Grants for Ohio Disciples Clergy (ordained or commissioned) with CCIO standing, and serving an Ohio DOC congregation, will be awarded. Awards are $10,500.00 disbursed over 3 years.
