And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Greetings Adult Conference,
When we set out planning the 2020 Adult Conference of the Christian Church in Ohio, we planned out every detail which we could conceive. Unfortunately, one of the aspects we did not plan for is the very scenario we find ourselves in today. With social distancing firmly in place, with the Adult Conference demographic amongst those hardest hit in this pandemic, and with a primary goal of Adult Conference to continue to produce and strengthen healthy Disciples of Christ, we must, in good conscience, cancel the 2020 Adult Conference gathering from June 15-19.
While this decision is regretful, it was made with the reinforcing of faith and the continued health of our community in mind. As Paul has named, we are one body with many members. It is to our benefit, and the benefit of the Body of Christ, that we have the best interests of the individuals that make up the body in mind.
In this light, while we will not be able to gather in person this June, we are preparing and planning virtual gathering opportunities for the week of June 15-19. If you have any technological or theological gifts that might be readily shared during that time, please contact myself or others in our leadership team so we might be better able to offer spirit building opportunities.
We are also shifting into planning for the 2021 Adult Conference of the Christian Church in Ohio. Our leadership team has unanimously agreed to reaffirm their roles for the next year so that planning might continue unencumbered. We can also announce that our committed Vespers Speaker and Bible Lecturer for 2020, Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins and Rev. Dr. Richard Lowery, have agreed to stay on for the 2021 Conference. We also have confirmed with Northwest Christian Church in Upper Arlington that our 2021 conference will occur June 21-25, 2021, so please mark your calendars.
I also invite you to keep up to date with the latest news in Adult Conference through our facebook page: Adult Conference of the Christian Church in Ohio (Disciples of Christ).
While the ways that we gather are being challenged in this uncertain time, may it serve as a reminder that the church has never been a location or a specific gathering but is universal and uniting. So, may we still seek to provoke one another to good deeds, to encourage each other, and to build the Realm of God within the strengthening community of faith found in the Adult Conference of the Christian Church in Ohio. May you find continued health and strength of Spirit, until we can meet again.
Rev. Christopher K. Stark
Adult Conference President, 2020
