Featuring Alex Ruth
Alex Ruth is the Associate Director of Disciples Men and serves as pastor of Marshfield Christian Church where he was called in 2006. Alex grew up in a variety of Christian traditions from the Roman Catholic Church, to Presbyterian Churches, to a Bible church where he spent his teen years. Alex first felt the call to ministry while working as staff at a summer camp, but was hesitant to relinquish himself to that calling until later in life. Alex and his wife first encountered the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) when they began seeking a church home as they anticipated starting a family. While becoming ever more involved in his faith and the local church, Alex’s call to ministry was reignited. He earned a Masters of Divinity from Phillips Theological Seminary in 2006 and a Doctorate of Ministry in Congregational Leadership from Bethel Seminary in 2016. Alex also holds certifications in leadership coaching and specializes in coaching clergy and congregations as they discern their calling and strive to follow God’s leading. Alex has been married to his high-school sweetheart, Jennie, since 1996. Together they have two children, Mason (20) and Kaia (17). Alex’s passion for Men's ministry is rooted in his experience of traveling through young adulthood while seeking healthy role models of what it means to be a man. Frustrated by the lack of resources to engage men in a healthy conversation about masculinity, he is excited to be working with Disciples Men as we develop a new curriculum for men's ministries. Alex brings a wide array of interests and experiences, as well as a deep desire to build life-giving relationships to all that he does.
