Dear Friends in Ohio,

Help your ministry and mission flourish!  This is an invitation to participate in Generosity Plus – a program created for the Ohio Disciples that is designed to improve both personal and congregational financial wellness.  The Center for Faith and Giving applied for, and subsequently received, a grant from the Oreon E. Scott Foundation to work with up to a dozen Disciple congregations in Ohio, providing training and individual coaching in the areas of stewardship and fiscal best practices.  We are seeking 12 congregations and pastors who want to participate in this grant and thus have access to the Center for Faith and Giving’s Generosity Plus services at no cost.

The major elements of this experience include two, two-day equipping sessions held at Camp Christian (May 17 & 18, November 8 & 9, 2019) and an onsite visit in your congregation with one of our generosity coaches for a complete “generosity assessment”.  Beyond that, you will receive annual campaign resources, planning assistance, as well as policy review and development tools that are necessary to create your own long-range comprehensive stewardship plan.  Your generosity coach will be available to assist you with the thoughtful implementation of your congregation’s custom plan.

The content of our Generosity Plus sessions at Camp Christian will feature materials specifically for clergy on May 17 and November 8, and learning activities for clergy and congregational leaders together on May 18 and November 9.  In order to qualify, congregations must be willing to commit to having at least two lay leaders participate in these events at Camp Christian, (along with the pastor), and be willing to meet with a generosity coach in their congregational setting.  Topics and workshops will include a biblical and theological approach to stewardship; achieving personal financial wellness; creating conditions for generosity to flourish; policy as sound fiscal practice for congregational health; budgets as tools not tyranny; preaching and teaching stewardship as Christian discipleship; developing alternate sources of income; and strategies for living (and funding!) your vision.

If you are accepted into the Generosity Plus program, your expenses for the training as well as the lodging and meals at camp will be provided for – you simply need to get to Magnetic Springs!  Our goal for this program is simple – we want you and your congregation to not just survive, but toachieve success in resourcing your mission and ministry.  Building healthy congregations with well-equipped leadership strengthens local communities, and for that matter, the whole church.

Our grant was written with the purpose of supporting every Disciples congregation in Ohio, so if you are not selected for the Generosity Plus, you will still have access to a series of six webinars that will be offered during 2019 and early 2020 (dates to be determined).  These webinars will feature many of the same topics that will be discussed in the Generosity Plus events at Camp Christian (but without the peer to peer interaction or access to a generosity coach without cost).

We hope that every congregation will avail themselves to these quality resources that can improve the climate and practice of generosity in their context so that they can fulfill their God-given mission in their communities.  Generosity Plus services, and generosity coaching, are always available as a fee-based service for those congregations who desire these valuable services, but who are not selected forthis intensive program.

Please prayerfully consider whether or not Generosity Plus would be helpful to you and your congregation.  If you have questions, please call me or send me an email and I will be happy to discuss the details and benefits with you.  To apply for Generosity Plus and receive your congregation’s personal generosity coach, fill out the application form (linked HERE) and return this form by February 15, 2019 to this address: Bruce Barkhauer, 1903 Winged Foot Court, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130.

Thank you and blessings in the mission and ministry you have been called to do,
