Chi Rho Camp is geared to Jr. High/Middle School youth who have finished grades 6, 7, or 8. Their theme this year is Gifts and Celebrations of God’s Love. Through the study of the Bible in morning “Quest” Groups they seek out the Quest Truth for that day. Beginning each morning with cabin devotions they learn to begin each day with a look towards God and Jesus. The day ends with the whole camp gathered for a worship service and then a good night prayer we call the closing Chi Rho. The week ends with a special service known as consecration. Here each young person has on opportunity to make a private commitment to themselves about what they have experienced during the week and how they will carry the message forward. These “letters” to themselves are sent as a packet to the Local Church where youth leaders hand them back to them in late winter. All campers are invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper during this service regardless of where they are on their faith journey.
Chi Rho Camp can be the best week of your life. You'll do more in one week than you ever thought possible. Experience serious times of worship, Bible Study, prayer, and discussion in our Quest Groups. Enjoy fun times of swimming in our two pools, fishing, games, singing, talent shows, and campfires. Make new friends which may last a lifetime. Grow in your Christian Faith.
Each day Chi Rho Campers gather in Quest Groups during the morning hours (groups of 8-12 campers learning by studying the scripture, crafts and games); in Morning Prayers by Cabin Groups each morning; and in Evening Prayers each evening as a whole camp. The week culminates in an inspirational Consecration Service on Friday evening.
Each week the camps are blessed with outstanding Christian pastors and lay persons as Assistant Directors, Counselors (cabin, table, Quest Group) who engage with the campers in study, prayer, recreation, etc., befriending young people in a way that has an impact on their lives for good. The program is blessed by the time, talent, treasure, and love extended so generously by these devoted volunteers.
Chi Rho Commission
The Chi Rho Commission has been busy this year as we planned for summer camp. We look forward to Counselors Training in May during which time we will be going over the curriculum for the Holy Spirit.
As we strive to enhance the vision of the Christian Church in Ohio with regard to strengthening relationships and building networks, our ministry continues to evolve and creative methods of actively engaging youth at the local church level will become a priority for our youth Commission organizations. We are striving to encourage today's youth to build lasting, godly relationships so that they might know more fully what it means to be the body of Christ.
This past Fall we successfully hosted a Chi Rho rally. Our theme, Salt and Light attracted about 150 youth. The Commission has agreed to continue with the rally every two years in order to encourage youth attendance at the Rally.
Fall 2016 we will offer some activities during the Regional Assembly which also happens every two years. We look forward to getting more information to you when it becomes available later this summer.
Efforts to meet our youth in meaningful ways involve exciting and innovative transitions intended to meet the demands of the rapidly moving social dynamic of our 21st century youth. Transformational innovation allows us to meet God's Vision through our camp program. The seeds of our Vision: evangelism, inclusion and accountability to the Great Commission encourage us to meet our youth even within a changing and challenging world. The Chi Rho Commission welcomes your thoughts and prayers as we seek to be centers of transformation on the new mission frontier of our communities.
We continue to encourage district events for Chi Rho. Districts report gatherings as they coordinate activities within the various districts. It is hoped that the Chi Rho Commission, its members, and youth will be able to look beyond their local church, to enhance evangelistic missions, as well as connect with others as the larger body of Christ at the district and state levels.
We are so appreciative to the members of our Commission who continue to work diligently for our middle school youth and strive to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ to these youth in a dynamic and transformational way. Our next meeting will be on October 1, 2016 at the Gender Road Christian Church in Canal Winchester from 10am-3pm.
